When it comes to cooking, Carol Can’t Cook. I want to make healthy desserts to share with my dog, but some things are just not meant to be. For those who have been following this blog for any length of time, you know that I am somewhat of a distracted cook. I was even considering being on the television show, Worst Cooks in America.
When the folks at Yonanas connected with me about their healthy dessert maker and how people can share with dogs what they make…let’s just say my curiosity was piqued. It’s an easy-to-use kitchen appliance that instantly churns 100% frozen fruits into healthy dessert without additional fat, sugar or preservatives. Oh, and it only takes seconds. Seriously, seconds. No stove involved. No baking, no big mess, and this has my name written all over it.
What the Heck is Yonanas?
Honestly, I hadn’t heard of it either. Yonanas combines frozen bananas and any additional fruit (or chocolate for the humans) through it’s core and churns out an oh-so-good non-dairy treat that people can share with dogs. Rather than tell you, here’s our video demonstration from our first attempt:
Seriously, that’s it, nothing more, nothing less, that simple. I didn’t cause a commotion, no one was injured, the kitchen remains intact, and the end result is that of soft serve ice cream or yogurt. Since we received the Yonanas Elite to try, a recipe book with over 130 healthy recipes is a bonus. My wife wants me to ease into the more involved recipes, which for the daredevil in me, means it will happen sooner than later.
Case in point: Pumpkin Pie, just one of the delectable recipes you can try:
Special Warnings If Sharing Yonanas With Dogs
There are certain fruits that dogs should never consume. Grapes are very toxic to dogs and the digestion of them is dangerous. Grapes have potential fatal effects, such as kidney failure. DO NOT give a dog grapes.
Do NOT give a dog cherries: Cherries contain cyanide, which can disrupt cellular oxygen transport when ingested by dogs.
Bananas are okay in moderation, since they are a fruit with a high sugar content. The Simply Yonanas recipe is one that you can share from time to time with your dog and what you saw us make in the video above.
Blueberries are a wonderful antioxidant, and we all want our dogs to have strong cells and long lives, right? Blueberries also provide vitamins C, E, A and B complex. The Blueberry Sorbet or Blueberry Yonanas recipe are instant treats that can be made with one to two ingredients!
